Nice edit... Yeah, I have seen that launch technique in person. Not that tough with 7m lines... still, very cool.
Hey, anyone know the music they used on that edit?

Lou. Always playing at a different level. Those short lines look fun. |

Can you do that with regular length lines? Definitely be worth a couple supermans to get it down. _________________ Rig Big. |

I'm not speaking from experience here but I doubt it. I suspect it wouldn't work as well. His kite was already falling by the time the lines ran out. With longer lines it would probably at least clip the ground and then do something stupid. You would have to throw it much higher. Also the kite climb would be much longer so you would get dragged a lot farther down the beach.
Speaking from experience this time . . . if you do decide to attempt this: Wear a helmet! I took one superman on a regular self launch and I don't remember the next 12 hours, or the self launch actually. _________________ Captain kook; always wrong. |

I think the answer is hello no with regular lines. Please do it and film it so we can show hat never to do. You don't have the buffer of the water nor the resistance so when the kite finally becomes taught after the slack and hands you a nice bitch slap upside your face. Looks pretty cool with the short lines. I would try it with the shorter lines but not regular lines:-)!!! |

In 2000, Top Hat used-to do the straight downwind hot launch with a ram air off the beach. But it was a continuous pull through the spectrum until overhead so he'd simply ski the sandbar on his feet. _________________ revitalized by muthu-nachu |

Ive seen that done a bunch of times, though it looked unplanned and had different results. I thought it was called a blind to ohPhuk to Ouch.
Lou will probably figure out how to walk on water soon and not even need a board |

what I find interesting in the self launch method is there is some sort of line attached to the trailing edge center strut.
at the :32 mark you can see the end which has some sort of grab handle attached to it.
My guess is it is being utilized during the self launch somehow.
sorry bammers could not figure out song name. tried both shazam and soundcloud but no results. _________________ www.jimstringfellow.com |

^^^naw man
Lou is four lines all the way. its legit and in all honesty not that hard with those lines. they are like 5m.
BUT
notice he is unhooked. the good old tried and true, and safest way to launch(most of the time). never get worked when you launch like this. if something goes wrong you just let go!!
Todays kites you can hot launch and barely get yanked, especially with a chicken loop. |

yup saw him do this a long time ago before Wainman kite brand started. ultra short lines with a kite that looked almost home-made at that time.... possibly a proto type.

Did that by accident once with a 15m batwing and standard lines.
Surprisingly it elevated straight up without getting in the power zone, thank God.
Never tried it again though, but maybe with short lines and a small kite.... |
