Was there three days ago. Totally washed out. Small chop. Strong current. Nothing to write home about.
On a positive note, beer was cheap at the Rufus Market

Monday night was epic! It takes 25+ mph to generate good swell when the flow is this high.
It doesn't look so great when viewed from the parking lot but go a few hundred yards up or down and you'll find good swell.
the quality of the waves is directly related to the quality of the wind.
Gusty wind, choppy swell.
Smooth wind, smooth waves.

if the flow is above 300,000 the waves will be crap unless the wind is 25 mph or higher. Right now it's at 353,000.

| I don't buy that logic at all. I've been at Rufus with 30+ in high water and the waves are not half as good as they are at low water. High water at Rufus means go to Roosevelt.

Where do you launch from at the Wall? This was one of my favorite spots during my old windsurfing days.

You don't.
God must be a windsurfer since he put the best swell at all of the windsurfing launches. For the Hatch, Doug's, the Wall and Arlington it is best to kite up, down, or over from a nearby kite friendly launch.

I noticed the Bonneville Dam flow has dropped below 300,000 as of 07/18.
Any recent on-site reports from Rufus? Swell quality? Fast current? etc etc
Today might be a winner out there! TIA, Rob

| was out last saturday and it cleaned up once the wind hit 30 or so. Below 30 and its still a bit choppy.

I was there on Wednesday and the swell was ok and not too choppy, however, it was only a 8m/10m day. The current is still pretty swift so don't get separated from your board for too long. A guy from Boise had to chase his board up wind. He eventually had to give up and body drag a mile + back to Rufus. He was a very good kiter he just couldn't catch up to his board.

2 weeks ago Jason and I watched a friend's kite get sucked underwater. She had landed on the small island just west of Rufus and then lowered her kite into the flat water pond. Immediately her fully inflated 6m kite started to get sucked completely underwater by the turbulent current. The kite was pulling her into this turbulence when she pulled her release. Kite came up and we grabbed it.
Be aware.
Is that 300,000 cu ft per sec or minute. Either way. Huge flow.

| I was there yesterday. Swell was very good, though not amazing, on a 6m until the wind shifted to NW at which point Rufus did its usual awful gusts from hell zero to 40 hell session. The current was ripping, though not insane. If you break down in the middle it will take you about 1 mile of west travel to make it to shore. If you come into the OR side it's an easy walk back except for the three pond openings. At each of these there is a swift counter clockwise Eddy current. To deal with this don't swim against it. Swim across it as it swings you around and it's no big deal. If you come in on the WA side you will want to come in at The Wall, The Marker, or the Peach Beach stretch, and either thumb a ride around, or call a buddy at Rufus for a pick up.
