Sat Jan 28, 12 8:55 am Spring break: South Oregon Coast? |
|
|
Hey guys,
I'm not from around here so i'm not certain about timing of certain spots. Advice would be very helpful, please!
What would it be like on the South Coast ~ last week of march (spring break for me)?
I'm guessing from what i've looked at on windfinder/iwindsurf/wunderground that there is a possibility of getting rainy, southerly winds. Any possibility of clear Northerlies?
Any other spots in OR that might be worth checking out around that time? We live in Portland.
thanks. I owe you guys a pile of Jumbacos

March is a little early for a definite score down here. It's a gamble for sure. Then there are the sharks to worry about...and the syphilis. _________________ I tell you, we are here on Earth to fart around, and don't let anybody tell you different.

That's pretty early around here, not saying we don't get the occasional killer sess in early spring.
If your looking to score a multiple days you will need to head south from Waddell and follow the weather pattern. One word of advice. The waves in the spring are fucking HEAVEY and WILL FUCK YOUR SHIT UP if you are not wave savvy. Go ahead, ask me how I know.
Oh ya, did I mention off shore winds?
The only other advice is that this area is called the RED TRIANGLE for a reason. The landlord in the grey suit loves this area, as it is home to many sea lion sanctuaries/rookeries.
If you decide to go you had better bring your A Game, or just stay home. |

If you can block out the time .....I say have your shizots ready to go and watch the models....high pressure could dig in and deliver a good stretch of shock and awe.
Floras Lake will be your flat water go-to on north winds and whiskey run will be the spot for northern south coast waves...friendly all around.
I am mostly shackled to the area gold beach and south to smith river...the crew can point you to the right places if you make it down this far and if there is wind we are there. The flat water gets limited here depending on tides and estuary shaping by floods. Things are looking good after this last pulse of water. But think waves if you come down this far.
If you are a whitewater boater...bring the Tupperware....good time of year for that...
Feel free to pm me for more info on the deep south. |

If you want more of a garenteed wind fix, then keep heading south to central Calif coast as March is primetime for the Spring northwesterlies.
