The Big Horn Mountains! Wyoming, USA Update…Nov 7, 2011

The Big Horns are one of only a few snowkite areas anywhere right now with snow, and arguably one of the best in the world especially right now. I thought it worthy of an other update with some pictures to help get snowkiter’s stoke on for the 2012 season. Hopefully we'll get some of those kitesurfers off the couch for the offseason as well.

I appreciate the good feedback from the NW costal and Gorge kiters on my first post a couple of weeks back. This time I went back with Wayne Phillips and Billy Baker. Billy had his biggest flight ever and Wayne had some epic lines. I caught this one in sequence with this cool snow slide.

I'm stoked Drift Snowkite Magazine published some of these pics and a story here...

Get out there!
Cheers, Will Taggart

Holy crap! Those are amazing avy photos! How close did he come to it? Do you think he triggered it or was it natural? Also, are you guys using sleds to access these areas? Wouldn't mind doing some sledding/shuttling/snowkiting out there some time.

That should be called a remote triggered slide where most likely Wayne's riding by caused the unstable slope to slightly vibrate and give. It's an obvious wind loaded slope from the strong WSW wind that was 9m the day before. He rode right above it as you can see in the last picture where he's traversing. As he rode by it to his line he disturbed the slope and it it finally went.

My plans are to try and go back after Thankgiving with Chaz. Hopefully we can get our sleds in order by then! Maybe sooner if I can get a carpool!

-P.S. I might take you up on that place to stay there in Casper Mark!

Yea, it could be a sympathetic release. Note to self... Don't take pictures from under that cornice!

Here is a video from that day! The big horns are worth the trip! Tons of terrain for all abilities. Get there now before you need a snowmobile. Hope this gets y'all stoked to ride!
