I remember seeing the post several times last winter.

We're going to need it for a couple of weeks in October.

Yeah, yeah... I know there are lots of places to rent a wreck on the island. I already have all that info from our last trip. I was hoping to go through a private party this time but can't find that old post.

Anybody know?

Thanks.

Dont use Al Wests Vans anymore. Not the same since Al left. The cars are crap and so is Customer Service. Speak to anyone who has rented from them recently.
I'm not saying that to flame anyone or talk smak. Its just the way it is these days.
If you rent a minivan or SUV from Orbitz or Cheap Tickets, you will get a better price and way better vehicle.

No no no...

There was a guy on this forum who lives in Portland and was renting his van in Maui.

That's who I'm looking for.

This is the dude you were referring to. His name is Jake, his Dad is Jay.
They have vans for rent for really cheap

Jay - 360-463-4547

Jake - 808-280-6349

They have minivans and a chevy Trailblazer which Im using right now.
No fuss no mus, they pick your ass up at OGG and fill out the paperwork in the car. No need to ride to Kihei or ride some chump shuttle with all your stuff.
Let me know if you need any other connections or logistical help for Maui. I go there quite a bit. Do you still need lodging ?

Tell them Enrique sent you.

Aloha from Haiku, e

We have a winner. That's exactly who I was looking for.

Thanks Enrique. I'll contact them shortly.

And yes, we are going to need some kind of temporary lodging from Oct 14th until the end of the month (at the latest). We've been planning our relocation to Maui for the better part of 2 years. The only ?? is where we are going to stay until we find a house to rent. Doing some kind of vacation rental is stupid expensive. We are looking for something more real and flexible (depending on when we find a rental to move into). We've been researching the market for quite a long time now so we should be ready to jump into a house fairly quickly.

('We' = Kiter + Cute Girlfriend + Great Dane)

Thanks again. Much Mahalos.

Mike

I have rented from Pablo. make sure you have some type of insurance rider from your own insurance to cover the car as he will ask you for this when you arrive. The toyota we had was mechanically sound minus the shot shocks. it was all good until I rolled the window down and the ant family that lives in the door came to visit my wife and I. I took care of them but overall a descent car for the price. He will pick you up at the airport and picked the car up as I unloaded my bags at the airport. HE is a nice guy and a stellar windsurfer who hangs at Hookipa. Best of luck!!!!

No one rents camper vans on Maui. Camping is sketchy and not recommended. You can rent a regular van from Als Vans or Maui Vans but they are bare with no facilities , meant for pole dancing gear mostly.

The words Maui and super cheap dont go together at all. But having said that I do know of a good hostel that is very economical. Last time I checked into it the rates were $ 25 /night for a dorm room shared with other people, and $ 65/night for a private room. You can get better rates for weekly and monthly rentals.

Your connection there is Riki Pestana, he is Pete Cabrinhas cousin.

Rainbow surf hostel
Riki & Kristina
221 Baldwin Avenue
Paia, Maui, Hawaii 96779
Telephone: (808) 579 - 9057 or cell 808-757-3734

E-mail: riki@tiki.net

Then you will need a car. These guys have some good cars and minivans.
Maui Wowe Car Rental :
http://www.amauiwowerental.com/
your contact is Jay 360-463-4547
or Jake 808-280-6349 he also teaches kiting. Tell them your from the gorge and that you know Enrique and Russ.

Alternatively

Maui car rental aka No Ka Oi Motors speak to Kalii tell him Enrique sent you. He has cars for $ 22 per day or about $ 150 / week.

If you want a pickup truck with or without racks call these guys :

Hope this helps. Let me know if you need other logistical help for Maui.

Aloha from paradise, ea
