Fri Oct 01, 10 10:42 am What is "Riding Suicide"? |
|

I was just looking at a video and the guys were talking about riding suicide. What does that mean exactly? I'm assuming it has something to do with bypassing some safety mechanisms but how exactly and why would you do it? _________________ Captain kook; always wrong. |

Clipping your leash right to the chicken loop, so that you can recover from crashes faster. It's not so dangerous anymore with depowerable kites. It's hard on your chicken loop rope, and hard on your gear in general. Most people ride with there leash attached to their trim line, and it's a good compromise. |

So this would only matter if you were unhooked? And the faster recovery would just be that you bring the bar right back to you instead of having to reel it in? _________________ Captain kook; always wrong. |

It can also be dangerous if your hooked in and have to use your safety release in a kitemare situation. Some kite company's use a "mini 5th" safety attachment that in my opinoin is just as dangetrous in a kitemare situation. Basically if you cant flag out your kite, how you gonna self rescue? _________________ I stretch my wings and pull the strings |

Yes, reeling the bar in can take some time vs. with suicide you can grab and go. This is good if you're crashing lots trying new tricks every couple minutes or riding in a crowded area especially if hitting features. I also like it in the surf for unhooking since you can relaunch the kite quicker or sometimes even grab the bar before the kite goes down into the water. This can be a big plus in the waves.
If you're not sure why people do it then you're probably better off with a regular setup since the benefits aren't worth it for you. _________________ The Slider Project, LLC

Oh ya. This is still my first season. I don't ride unhooked yet and I certainly don't need suicide yet. I just didn't know what it meant. _________________ Captain kook; always wrong. |

My 2010 North 5th Element bar has a really slick way to go suicide without losing the ability to pull the safety. I assume other companies now have similar features. |
