Awesome! Cook is why you still have to show respect for the pole patrol. |

Note the difference in sail size between what he's holding down and the other folks are riding... |

It's funny though...
If this had been a video of a kiteboarder, the windsurfing forum would be full of posters condemning kiteboarding and kiteboarders as dangerous & uncaring of the danger they pose to others. There was a video a while back depicting an incident at RR. I find the difference in reaction to this video interesting. (Compared to the reaction on the windsurfing forum.)
I personally accept that both sports are adrenaline sports and carry an inherent risk factor. I see guys pulling stunts that are dangerous, though I'm past the point of trying some of these things, I still feel exhilaration watching. Why is it, do you suppose, that some people feel the need to attack, rather than feel the exhilaration? |

The reason the RR incident Nak refers to go a lot more play in forums was because it was a near collision situation. Shit happens....and everyone rode away fine but the Gorge is gusty so I'm surprised more collisions don't happen considering the weekend traffic.
Cooks recent boosting and subsequent huck of his rigging thankfully didn't seem to endanger anyone because you would have heard about it by now. I wish the video did show how far his sail went downwind and I'm sure he got a few looks when he got back to shore along with a hundred congrats and free beer offers.
This past summer seems to have the pole and kite community living more harmoniously together. This is just my opinion but the evolution of kiting growth partnering with the windsurfing community in anyway is going to be a good thing and possibly necessary for survival. Wind and water DNA flows between us all. |

Agreed completely. I do want to clarify: I didn't mean for my post to slam windsurfers in general. 99% of the windsurfers I've run across both here and abroad share the stoke. I believe that the majority of the windsurfers at the event site would be cool with us having a bit more grass; I'm sure a lot of them wouldn't care if we were launching there. Just talking about a vocal few.
Much respect & gratitude to Phil & Nicole for all the work they put into keeping this forum a cool place to hang out. |

I am quite sure the attitude of "ha ha he almost got this windsurfer" was a main reason for the reaction the previous incident.

I'd give him the benefit of the doubt and say that I assume he checks downwind of him just like kiters do. |

Dang,
I've never seen the likes of that from a sail...yowee!!
We get a second wind lift sometimes but our gear is up there (30+m or more...
Maybe that's what happened? he got up there, no one else ever had that I've seen...
Does this sort of air happen regular like to pole people now?
if so, I hunt down the gear I sold and get some of that...
Dang
Never seen anything like that from a pole soul before
fo
and clearly he feaked, and bailed, I want to see someone "stick" a landing...
I'm impressed, can you tell? yikes |
