Was out at Holly today and they were putting a new gate at the cattle guard. There have been signs for that last few months saying No Trespassing.

A group of locals has secured the launch upwind by the house and dock. It has been graded and is being cleaned up. A couple of kites were up there today. The plan being that there are no lesson taught there and you must be able to stay upwind to launch there.

The landowner is good with us riding there as long as it dosen't get trashed and there are no problems. Our agreement with the owner is that everyone who rides there sign a waiver. We have formed Laguna Beach Watersports Association to operate the area. We are buying liabiity insurance also as a part of our agreement with the owner. We will have spent about $ 2,500 for everything and are going to charge a fee of $40 per year or $ 25 for a 1 month pass to get the people that put the money in back. Other improvments are also in the works but, we are just trying to get it going as soon as possible.

As soon as I know more I'll let you know.

Hey Ziggy, I'm on my way down there in a few weeks. Could you post contact numbers or a place where I can go to make sure I'm covered so if I choose to rider there I can?

I'm a kiter and a bird watcher. When you ride at the new location please try not to disturb the thousands of nesting birds on the Islands which are now closer to the launch site. If we are seen disturbing the birds we will be shut down by this organization, www.cbbep.org. You have lost snow kiting rights out west and the same will happen here if we don't respect the nesting birds. Have fun!!!!

Sounds good... Can we sign-up online for the pass or at one of the kite shops?

Currently the shops are not involved with the passes. As of now, we do not have anything online yet.

You can stop by Island Furnature at 4908 Padre Blvd. ( 956-772-1900) and see Rob to pick one up, assuming the wind is not up.

At the beach or the flats Dave Hall, Paul Berry or Dr. Ron will have them as well.

If you are at Holly see one of the above people as well. Everyone is welcome at Holly, as long as you can stay upwind. If nobody is there for a pass, feel free to ride and track a pass down as soon as possible.

Also as posted above, try to stay away from Bird Island as they are now nesting.

Sounds good, no idea if I'll go to Holly or not, but thanks for the info. If I do, I'll get the month pass and stay away from the birds.

We are staying just a few houses down from Dr Ron so maybe we can grab one from him.

Then again looks like plenty of wind in the forecast so we'll probably just stick to the flats & surf.

Been going to Holly for 6 years now and have always tried to tread lightly and keep it on the down low. . Glad there is a more legit beach setup going in. I appreciate the work the locals are doing to preserve access.
