That was me up bu the island. I think the water is less choppy up there, and some nice little river waves set up by the channel marker. It doesn't leave much room for error in high river flow. Thanks for keeping an eye out Jbruxer.

Wylieflyote, I like the two leash idea. I'm not sure which is gayer, the Joe or $650 for a new board.

lawnmower man -

when i upgraded my spreader bar, i started getting the one-side-out problem, even with the straps pretty tight. now, i have a leader line loop attached to the open ended harnass hook, and a spare kite leash wrapped around the back of the harnass. after i hook the spreader bar in, i thread the loop through the hole in the harnass hook and then the spare leash comes around and hooks to the loop. not sure how much pressure this can withstand but it fixed the problem for me. adds 5 seconds to the time it takes to put the harnass on, and doesn;t seem to attract any weird stares.

just a suggestion.

pjc ,
If I follow you you are tying the spreader on?
There has been a time or two when I needed to shuck the harness,
lines wrapped in it .

And in general just to swim better

I put my Da Pends on as tight as possible
then see saw the straps tighter
until a little hard to breathe
as soon as I get wet it loosens up enough to release in a emergency

It's not a tie on the open side. The spare leash clips to the loop. I can get out easily if I need to ... maybe easier than riders whose harnass straps are cinched super tight.

I'll show you tommorrow or fri... it's a super simple mod (the only kind I'm capable of) but it is sort of hard to describe.

I live in fear of that one-side out phenomena - had a bad kitemare from that before I started securing the free side.

I agree that carrying an extra leash for the board is well worth while. This has helped me out on a few occasions.

IMO, I don't really care what other folks think the Go-Joe looks like, if it improves ones self sufficiency and/or saves bucks I figure it is worthwhile. I have appreciated when others have helped me out or saved my gear from floating away, but I would rather not rely others, not even occasionally. Granted it is not needed in all conditions but when the river current is up it has been helpful for me.

Have not had the problem of with a spreader bar coming loose but now I have some ideas of how best to handle the situation should it ever occur.
