Just bringing this obviously multi-hijacked thread back to the original topic with a reminder that Rock Creek/Mosier is still locals only. The gate is shut, and the posted restriction still stands. It's a good thing too, because (much like our inept "leader"ship) it seems a lot of tourists just don't get it (that Covid 19 is bigger than ever).
Thanks for your attention.
And now for my favorite PSA...

When Rock Creek catches fire this summer, I hope no firefighters from outside your area code show up...

biff, the tourists completely "get it". what they get is if a public space is open, it's open to all. there is no such thing as legal "locals only", and everyone has figured this out.
when Oregon coastal towns have closed beaches, they have to technically close them to everyone.
i'm not arguing whether people travelling to recreate is the right thing or not, but being truthful is definitely the right thing. |

By now, everybody who cares knows about this, including various governmental agencies. So far, nothing but crickets at Mosier City Hall regarding the closure of Rock Creek to non-locals. No complaints, no cease and desist orders from any state or local agencies, no lawsuits, etc. The only complaints seem to be from the courageous and all-knowing here and on Iwindsurf.
But I have a good name for a potential case, should you decide to go class action:
Trolls United vs. City of Mosier.
You will be lauded as true heroes in the Gorge and probably DC as well. Make sure you file a similar case in Hood River re: Post Canyon.
In the meantime, it appears the Event Site in Hood River is now at serious risk for a complete shutdown. Because, yeah, a lot of tourists just don't get it. |
