Anyone ever snowkite up on Powell butte? Never been up there, not sure how much room there is. |

There would be enough room to kite but it is definitely not a clear field on top. It would take either a ton of snow or one of those open field mowers to clear it out beforehand. Lots of thorny bushes and whatnot from what I remember, as well as small trees randomly planted within the last couple years.
Probably not impossible but would be challenging. Might be worth a hike to check out if they get a foot or so out of this storm cycle. |

Here's an entry from Feb 2014:
I hiked up to the top of Powell Butte today with board and kites and found great wind-super clean- but not nearly enough snow. I think for that place to work you would need like a two foot dump to cover the thorn bushes and punjabs(cut off bushes). It could be really dangerous without a substantial snow cover. I am gonna go check out Fernhill park later, but am sure the wind will be swirly because of all the obstructions. |
