***RANT***

Portland has to have the biggest pack of alpine dumbasses!

Attention, you squatters on the crapper, there's 20 dudes in line out here, put your phone away and wrap it up! Alien

Hey, you jackasses in the dog area, you're not in the deep wilderness, you're in a heavily used dog park. There's free bags and garbage can right f'ing there. Scoop your dog's f'ing poop!

You f'ing MORONS in the lift line, do you understand what "alternate" means? It's not that hard of concept. Do you realize the line gets longer when you decide you need to ride the chair all by yourself? Mad

And lodge bunnies, guess what....aisles are for walking and tables are for sitting and eating. Not for storing your crap that should be left in your car. Next time you might find a little surprise in that bag of yours. Shocked

...and in a few months all of those assholes will be at my local beach.

I keep rooting for ebola to make a comeback, but I'm not sure that helps.

I am 90% in agreement with you. However, MHM does not do a good enough job ANTICIPATING the weekend nutfest, and the 10% of clients that will be purposefully clueless unless shown/told/demanded to behave otherwise. It's the 10% of the a$$hats that cause 95% of the angst and frustration for the ret of us. MHM does much better than days of old, but still needs to do better. How?

Staff the lift lines with at least one seasoned, well trained lift op who has the skills and maturity to direct traffic, and pay said folks accordingly. We have all experienced how smoothly lines can flow when there is someone in charge who can direct traffic with that right combination of assertiveness, humor, and goodwill. Two years ago there was a gentleman in his late 20's, red beard, who was often on Shooting Star on the big days and was phenomenally good.

Hey Slither, news flash: Mt Hood Meadows has made it too cheap to ski and oversold the resort. Time to increase the barriers to entry and weed out the weak and some of the dumb-assess; time to bump up the season pass prices two-fold.

Attention, you squatters on the crapper, there's 20 dudes in line out here, put your phone away and wrap it up! Alien

Slither, give most of those guys a break. It is f*cking hard “dropping off the kiddies into the pool”, especially with ski boots on. That is because when one is sitting on the porcelain throne, with or without ski boots on, it puts a kink in one's intern hose and stops the Ben & Jerry's chocolate soft-serve from sliding out quickly.

As for using one’s mobile phone on a public ski lodge throne, some know no shame and obviously have no sense of smell.
I wish Meadows would improve their ventilation in the Men’s bathrooms.
I also wish they would provide a spray bottle of this stuff in every sit-down stall:

It also might speed up the line if they had one of these in every stall:

Sounds like the CrowdBar down in the Hood. Some dog owners just don't have a clue or just don't care about others.

You f'ing MORONS in the lift line, do you understand what "alternate" means? It's not that hard of concept. Do you realize the line gets longer when you decide you need to ride the chair all by yourself?

Yeah, I love this one. The pair that won't double up with the pair ahead of them in the quad line. Once again clueless and inconsiderate people. When this happens I often ask the pair ahead of me if they would mind if I coupled up with the pair ahead of them. Sometimes they say "OK" and other times they figure out that they could do this and thus saving themselves many extra minutes in the chair line.

And lodge bunnies, guess what....aisles are for walking and tables are for sitting and eating. Not for storing your crap that should be left in your car. Next time you might find a little surprise in that bag of yours.

Yeah, this is a tough one. Sometimes these people are going up with someone that likes to ski/board and they don't like it as much or don't ski/board at all; or the weather is too much for them to endure. On super busy days not much to do about this situation.

The best way to eliminate these problems is SNOWKITING. Haven't been on a resort in 13 years and the powder is endless.

I do understand that its not that easy in Oregon, but i would much rather invest in gear or a snowmobile then to ever be subjected to the retardedness that ski hills provide. It was bad back then I don't think i could handle any of it at this point.

Problem solved Very Happy

Eric, I'm with ya. They've gotten plenty of suggestions in the suggestion box from me this year. Like replacing the microwave that's had an "out of order" sign on it all year. So fun to stand in yet another long line to heat up your cup-a-soup because they can't be bothered to go buy a $100 item and plug it in. Sad

And when I say to the lift ops we need a traffic controller they look at me like sad slaves and say they just don't have the bodies.

That said, it's probably a high risk biz based on the weather so they have to cash in when they can. Meadows is doing a lot of good things too.

Pretty sure the asshat % was more than 10% on Monday which was an otherwise EPIC day!

Are you sure that they would recover the revenue they lost when people don't buy season passes anymore? I already know quite a few people who won't spend the money for a Meadows season pass for a number of reasons. Expense is their number one reason and secondarily there is no guarantee what conditions mother nature will provide.

Maybe increase the unlimited price for the Portland weekend warriors and leave the price the same for the limited passes. That would make more sense since the weekday skier traffic isn't too bad.

All I know it is too crowded up there. I'm not sure what would work. Make the weekend skiing more expensive. . .just like a toll bridge or road and have peak use pricing.

Meadows cheap? I am spending quite enough as it is...and I don't think resort skiing needs to be reserved for the financially elite.

If the weather let's Meadows get all or most of the lifts going, even with 3 full lots, plus busses, plus HR shuttles, they still keep the lines reasonable.

But per my original, people need to pull their heads out!

And yes, if I didn't have to be there for my boy's race team I would be skinning and/or snow kiting in the back, not waiting behind 20 other dudes ready to crap my bibs. Mad

Perhaps the word inexpensive would be a better term than cheap? If one uses their season pass then skiing gets more and more inexpensive everyday after the breakeven point (10 days at Meadows).

Skiing is costly with all the gear, time required, travel etc etc and of course the tickets or passes.

Bottom line is holidays and weekends are tough and a sh*t show. . . HIGH DEMAND on everything, including one's peace of mind.

"In microeconomics, the law of demand states that, "conditional on all else being equal, as the price of a good increases (↑), quantity demanded decreases (↓); conversely, as the price of a good decreases (↓), quantity demanded increases (↑)".[1] In other words, the law of demand describes an inverse relationship between price and quantity demanded of a good."

I didn't make up the economic law, but if you want less people up on the mountain than increasing prices is one way of doing it.

Perhaps put a cap on tickets sold in a day? Some how factor in season pass holders and other multiple day pass holder with daily ticket sales?

It seems to me that as long as one can get up to Meadows, they make it like Thunderdome, and cram as many people as they can into the resort and let everyone battle it out for whatever resource/s or good/s they are seeking (fresh pow, lodge seating, microwave to heat one's cup of soup, or a chance to sit upon the porcelain throne.)

And yes it would be better/nicer if people pulled their heads out of their asses and thought a little bit about others and or how to improve situations.

Those backcountry tracks looks fantastic!!!! What a day.

Your mountain please.....

It's everybodys mountain.. How long have you lived here?

I've lived here summers since 92 year round for 25. I don't consider myself a true local. I was not born and raised here. My kids are.... Locals and are frustrated with the growth here.. Not much they can do.

Unless you were born here. A long time ago you are probably not a local. Unless you have been living under a rock it's obvious that people have figured out that the PNW is a great place for everything kiting skiing snowboard moto mt biking fishing kyaking etc...

I always say that this area is not the best for everything but really good at all of the above..

Quit bitching or move somewhere else.....

It's only going to get worse..

I miss the days of seeing 1 or 2 mt bikers in Post canyon plus a horse or 2. All summer long....

Or parking at HRM and knowing everybody in the lot by name.. Those days are over.
Or kiting with 20-30 people because that was the the total amount of kiters in 2000 here in the gorge. Times change so we have to deal with it..

Still love this place but there are more kooks coming from everywhere...

Stoked to have been here before the Mayhem...

Hey Zipperline, I'd love to have a beer with ya and shoot the shit. What drew you here to HR and the PNW?

I'm not sure if you are talking to Wind Slither or myself?

But I can tell you that both Wind Slither and I are born and raised Oregonians. I can't speak for Wind Slither beyond that, but I'm 3rd and 5th generation Oregonian and I've still have straight teeth. That is twice as long as you're been around. The only true locals are the Native Americans which we all displaced.

So we grew up on Hood and know what we are talking about etc etc. Not to mention other locales around Oregon.

Yes, we know the secret is out about the PNW, but we can still complain about inconsiderate A-holes that live here, visit here, and plan to move here. I don't have a problem with people coming here or visiting here. But WHEN IN ROME, DO AS ROMANS DO. Translated. . . have some wherewithal and be considerate whether on the beach, mountain, or in-between.

Love what you do and make the place you visit better than the way you found it is my motto!

Cold one waiting for you whenever. . . slopes or on the ocean or river or mt. bike trails.

Cheers!

My extended family in Colorado quite skiing a couple years ago when the 1 hour drive turned into 2-3 hours with all newbies moving to Colorado. So you got that going for you. My brother only does backcountry in Park City now. Oh and by the way the kiters have at least doubled in La Ventana from 3 years ago! Maybe that is why Pickleball is the fastest growing sport in The USA!
