The LAST DAY OF Off Season Kite launch and land access at the Hood River Event Site will END BE THURSDAY JUNE 29th.

Starting Friday June 30th, the Event Site will be a PUMP and DRY ONLY location for the Kite Community (Launching/Landing is prohibited)

Kite LAUNCHING and LANDING is moved back onto the safety and space of the Hood River Sandbar.

SANDBAR LAUNCH and LANDING ADVICE : ImportantTips to Remember
1) Set up your kite and lines either downwind of the launching/landing area, or anywhere clear of in and out traffic.
Treat this area like an airfield, your either launching or landing, and if you are doing neither, you are wrapping your lines up and keeping your gear clear of the beach front area.
*Always weigh down your kite with sand or rocks to avoid losing your gear to the evil wind gods.

2) Once your kite is flying, get out and away from the Event Site (standing flying a kite at 12o'clock on the beach is dangerous and blocks others from launching and landing).
*If you are teaching a friend or are a beginner, absolutely stay clear of the upwind area above the launch and in front of the Event Site, sitting static with a kite in the air for any period of time is very frowned upon and results in crossed lines and even more cross confrontations.

3) If you are teaching friends move out to the far end of the sandbar or send them to one of the professional kite schools please!

4)There is also always plenty of room on the sandbar as long as no one is hogging the space with chairs, blankets or randomly unattended kites. Keep it clean out there.

5)NO KITING INSIDE OF THE WHITE BUOYS or the SANDBAR CHANNEL!!
THE BOUNDARY AREA IS SET UP TO PROTECT NON KITING RECREATIONAL USERS.

COURTESY GUIDELINES :
Please be courteous to other kiters, windsurfers, spectators on the water and on the beach. Give room for others to safely ride safely, watch out for kiters/windsurfers in distress, assist with help when you can and always, always share the stoke!
*Show off kiters/windsurfers riding aggressively inside the white marker buoys or riding into the Basin Channel are in violation of maritime law and doing so will result in both a fine from the Sheriff and losing access privileges on Port of Hood River Properties!

Thank you for taking the time to read this post and for any help that you may provide in sharing and promoting these safety and courtesy messages with the rest of the kite community
