FYI - Our requests for help from the Port for more signage, ropes lines and a more visible flight deck will not be fulfilled.

It is 100% up to the local kite community to create, maintain and enforce as safe of a launch and land zone at the Event Site as we possibly can.

When you see people that are not following the beach rules, please take a moment and very politely approach them to ask if they need help or have any questions about launch protocol a the Event Site.
Politeness begets politeness, always remember this.

If you sound upset or pissed off, you will get no where with anyone, and just end up sounding like a grumpy dick. If you sound polite and nice, then you come across as the super cool local who cares.

Please care about the Event Site, whether it is because you paid the $70/$100 or you truly value the access/harmony that we have, it doesn't matter.
All that matters is that you care and you are willing to do something about it.

When you state create you better put some framework up. In order to have a safe launch you have to keep bystanders out. Will the cgka support the kiters when it's roped off in a more permanent way to keep the unknowingly jeopardized safety of the non Kiter. There are other ways to keep the public out. Maybe take all the dogs shit and make a perimeter!!! In all seriousness an injury will happen to the public if they are continually playing and walking down wind of the kiters. Why won't the port post signage. Kind of sounds negligent to not post to avoid danger!

Agreed.
I've pushed this about as hard as I can with the Port without burning bridges in regards to our relationship with the Port representatives.
It's up to the kite community now to keep the sanity at a safe level.
The Board of Directors is discussing if we can find a way to pay someone to help with beach launching and landing assistance without putting ourselves into a sticky liability situation.

Lastly, please, if you have any thoughts of concern on this subject, please email or call the Port of Hood River to share with them you concerns regarding safety at the Event Site.

event site can get seriously crazy

especially on those days where you get the 15 to 50 mph devil gusts

those cables running down the grass are for securing windsurfers (never realized that) until I saw one take off and end over end away narrowly missing a toddler and mom
