Looking to take my family of 4 next February. Would like to find a 2 bedroom accommodation for under $200/night and hopefully closer to $150. Be on or near the beach and near some fun town action and groceries. Real Mexico. Need to rent boards and hopefully mountain bikes. Would love to kite especially if on waves. I'm an intermediate surfer, family is beginner.

I've read all the posts on Sayulita and other nearby spots. If it's Sayulita, where specifically should I target our accommodations?

Thanks in advance!
Thumb's Up

Sayulita, go right in town or just south up on the hill. The wave in town gets busy, but its super mellow. Your family will have fun. There are a handful of surf breaks within a 20 minute drive, and boats available for charter to the breaks on the point.

I don't know anything about mtn biking there.

DON'T do the Puerto Vallarta zipline tours. 6 or 7 years ago one of the ziplines broke, sending the gringo to his death.

Wind at Bucerias is still spotty in February. It comes on best late April.

Don't do the Sayulita zipline either. Here is a video of me crashing when they forgot to set the brake line.. (they like to control braking and wont give you gloves because its a wear item)

Yeah, I learned never to go zip lining from South Park, even before I saw your near death experience Mark! Laughing

Thanks for the tips! Is there a tasty left down there somewhere?

there is a firing left on a south swell, about 30 minute drive north then a 15 minute boat ride to an isolated point. Low likelihood of south swell in February, but you never know. I got it chest/shoulder high with 3 people. Plenty of other waves in the area that'll keep you busy.

I just got back from there last week. Really fun surfing around salulita and pretty much the only kiting is in bucerieas cause of a strong thermal. Kiting was chop with fun swell mixed in. If i went back i would not bring my kites and focus on family and surfing. Make sure when in salulita to walk the beach nw to the secret beach that you acess through a cave. Its not a big secret but really cool. Have fun slither!

Why would a kite surfer even consider zip lining as a potential activity? I always thought of it as a tourist scam... Maybe the views are good in some locations - but I too would be a little suspect of the carnival worker setting up my rigging.

I went zip lining with my kids while in salulita and it was one of the highlights of the trip for them. Very professional and entertaining and thats coming from me a guide for 25 years. I thought there braking system was a little hoky poky but i just slowed myself down so i didnt have to rely on them stopping me. Im 6'4" 215 pounds. Jmo

I remember on Maui bumping into Flash Austin and him telling me he still kited but "was really getting into zip lining". Laughing I think he was invested in the new zip line business there.

Thanks everybody for the info! Thumb's Up
