last year ron and I spent most of the winter at the airport on the easterly days. this year the PDX foil army doubles in size. todd and tak out joining us today before the ice storm comes tonight. sun came out and winds were great for foiling. water is about 46 degrees now air temp was in lower 40's. sun makes all the difference on these easterly days

Jim,
Nice pics. In the second one, is that a new slingshot foil board?
Cheers!

I believe this is a prototype/early production model so not sure if it will change once we see the production model.
I'm told it will be available after the first of the year. Very nice board!

Looks fun.
How is that drysuit? I've thought about getting one without the hood.....seems like the hood would just get in the way.

A number of Drysuits such as the Ocean Rodeo Soul and Patagonia have built in hoods which can either be detached or zipped away.
I had not had much luck with Drysuits - Mystic leaks around the crotch and Soul leaks around the pee zip. Planning to give the Patagonia a try next.

Glad to see you guys are getting the goods.
That photo with the plane in the background makes me wonder what is better for securing kiting near an airport?
1. keeping it hush hush so the numbers stay low
or
2. letting it gain popularity so that when the FAA tries to shut it down you have strength in numbers.
in general, FAA prohibits flying kites within 5 miles of airports. My understanding is Maui has a special arrangement with a no kite area in front of the runways.
Has anyone from the airport tried to hassle you guys?

If you don't ask the question then everything is great until the spot gets shut down.
I'm not the one posting pictures publicly of kiting in front of a runway and taking about the doubling in popularity.
I'd just hate to see you guys loose access to your local spot. The pictures could be great proof that it's harmless to kite there. All I'm saying its an important risk to consider and plan for. Especially if this spot is going to keep doubling in popularity 👍
