About to wave the white flag on hand pumping. Looking for rechargeable, portable, auto psi/bar set and max psi at about 14psi/1 bar.
Anyone found an inexpensive'ish option?
Thanks,

hey eric,
I don't use an electric pump, but I actually don't use a kite pump either.
I've found that they are too short and can be hard on your back.
for the past couple of seasons, I've used the SUP pump which is a single action pump that is much taller making it easier on your back. with a little modification to the nozzle it can be used with kites.
anyhow if I was to get a electric pump, I would probably go with the rich sabo pro model haha
here's a link to sea eagle's pumps, I got the SUP pump.

I am using a pump I got off Amazon that looks similar to the pump sold by Windance except it does not have a self contained battery. It is only rated at 11.6 PSI.

For the battery, I am using a 3 cell 11.4 volt 6800 mHA lipo battery which fits nicely in the carry bag. This set up pretty light and works well, however you have to have a charger that can charge lipo batteries and have to be aware of the hazards associated with lipo batteries. Low/under voltage, physical damage, puffiness, ect.... I am fairly familiar with lipo batteries from my R/C racing days. I also read about this set up on a different kite site which is why I went with this set up.
It seems to be working good although it seemed like my battery was starting to crap out on me and would only pump 1 or 2 kites before needing a charge. However a few days ago I realized my charger was shutting off at a preset mHA amount and not fully charging the battery. Hopefully my battery is fine now that its getting a full charge.
With this set up I have been able to pump 5-6 kites before needing a charge.

Edit: We are actually changing the name from old yeller to The Magic School Bus, sorry for any confusion this may have caused... _________________ I heart dangling Last edited by Inept_Fun on Tue Aug 05, 14 3:52 am; edited 1 time in total |

The electric pump looks pretty great. Going to try the tall hand pump first. It's not the pumping, but the bending that is tough for me.
Thanks Ian
