It's official, the Sandbar has come back and the Corp of Engineers confirms the water levels are receding at a normal pace.
The snowpack and water reservoirs indicate a steady spring runoff with no highwater circumstances evident.

SUNDAY JUNE 15 IS OUR OFFICIAL LAST DAY FOR LAUNCHING AND LANDING VIA THE EVENT SITE GRASS LAWN.

MONDAY JUNE 16 WE OFFICIALLY SWITCH BACK TO PUMP AND DRY ONLY AT THE EVENT SITE and LAUNCH/LAND VIA THE SANDBAR

We respectfully ask that all kiters please abide by the pump and dry rules that provide us with the large pumping and drying kite area at the east half of the Event Site. The center and western half of the Event Site are open specifically for recreational users and windsurfers.

We'd like to share our appreciation with The Port of Hood River and their Waterfront Coordinator Liz Whitmore. She has been a great supporter for maintaining the maximum amount of kiteboarding access as allowed during the non-peak user season.

Major props to the local kite community for helping to keep the launching and landing safe and self policing within the kite community when needed. The Port of HR sees these actions and it reflects well upon our sport.

The move back to The Sandbar is sometimes met with some questioning, and for those of you who are new to the area, it comes down to the combination of available user space and safety/liability issues that arise during peak season when the volume of Event Site users expands ten-fold.
The Sandbar offers a more unrestrained boundary area that allows for a much greater number of kite users to safely pump/dry and launch/land their kites without the dangerous challenges of maneuvering in and around sunbathers/windsurfers.

Please remember to continue to keep safety on the top of your check list. Double check your safety systems, give plenty of space to passing waterusers, no jumping around/near others and ALWAY, ALWAYS, help other kiters with launching and landing needs at all times.

Thank you
Your local CGKA Board of Directors
