Wed Apr 09, 14 11:59 pm Cabrinha Contra First Test Run |
|
|
As I was planning to maximize my time on the water and minimize my driving this summer, I looked at a number of light wind kites. I opted for the Cabrinha Contra 15m and gave it a first test run today at Sauvie Island. The wind conditions were actually right in the sweet spot of the kite: 7 - 15 mph. The kite delivered as expected: low end power, quick turning for its size. No white caps on the water anywhere in sight but still some fun riding and jumps (not huge but still). Below is the video of the session:

that's awesome. I've debated about getting a huge kite so I can ride Sauvies more regularly on those days when I get off of work with time to kite ~4pm. I wonder though isn't it just a better bet to drive to Stevenson? I feel like its just a few minutes more of a drive.

All depends on where you live and work. For those who live and/or work on the west side close to hwy 30 - getting through afternoon rush hour traffic to the east side of Portland and Stevenson is a lot more time and work than just going to Sauvies. I live in Wilsonville. It takes me about 50 minutes to get to Sauvies or Stevenson. It really comes down to which traffic you think will be worse. Of course - the wind is almost always better at Stevenson - so that factors into the deciding also. |

Agreed with Bill. Depends where you live. I live in Beaverton... Takes me 50 min to get to Reeder Beach on Sauvie. Stevenson would take close to 1.5 hour if not more on an afternoon after 4:00PM. |
