CGKA Current Events Update

Being that we no longer produce a newsletter and that the NW Kite forum has essentially been our avenue of communication with the local gorge kite community, we thought submitting an update post on the current CGKA/CGWWA discussion might be a good idea to do.

Where things started :
The CGKA and the CGWA met almost a year ago to discuss the idea of a merger of the two organizations, or more realistically, an absorption of the CGKA by the CGWA, to create a CGWWA.
Our talks were positive and without much challenge or concern for ideas or hesitations in the past from board members on either side of the table.
We agreed to use the summer as a ‘dating’ period to use as a way of testing the waters with the both the windsurf and kite community to see how each would respond to this sort of possibility.
As a gesture of diplomacy the two organizations worked on some launch access projects and meetings, with the goal of combining efforts for better results.

Where we are currently in regards to a proposed merger/absorption of the CGKA into the CGWWA.

*CGKA as an organization:
We are still working on details in regards to how we need to legally de-activate the status of the CGKA in regards to State and Federal identification. We are hoping for some help from the CGWWA on how to manage this, as they will then be the ones being handed the keys to the car (legally/financially). The state and federal govt know we have money in the bank and they want to know what will happen to it, and if they are owed any taxes, so this is a fairly important task to tie up legitimately.

*Kite Specific Liability and Safety :
Being that this is one of our most time consuming responsibilities (not really ever seen or heard of by the general public). Ideally we would like to know that a certain (Minimum) number of board members will be ‘Kite Specific’ representatives, as in experienced kiters with knowledge of launch site IKO safety/access requirements, kite related liability necessities, kite school knowledge/needs, and maintaining dialogue with the Slider Project representatives.

*Kite Specific Events :
We have made commitments towards trying to help alleviate insurance and event organization challenges that these event organizers contend with in making their respective events occur
– Bridge of the Gods Kite Comp/Blowout Race
- Huckfest
- Kite demo day for the local kite community (this is a hot/cold issue)

*Youth Kite Programs :
We have an allotted amount of funds raised specifically for supporting a youth kite event/program that needs to be kept completely separate and to be used only for the development of some sort of youth kiteboarding event, clinic or program.

*Organization relationships :
Although we have never combined efforts for any projects, we have had discussions with PS Kite representatives about trying to help each other out, either with event insurance/logistics, membership, or finding ways to link events to encourage kiters to attend event both here and up north. Their struggles have been very similar to ours as an organization, with volunteers carrying the weight of the organization.

*Financials :
We have a proposal on the table that would commit the bulk of our funds to be dedicated for new kite membership use.

*We will continue to keep you all posted as changes/progress occurs on this topic of discussion.
Beyond a new logo and membership growth, there are a few very important responsibilities that we want to ensure are accepted, managed and responsibly maintained going into the future for our local kiteboard community.

Thanks for the update.

Sounds like a move in the right direction with reasonable priorities set forth to protect existing relationships. That said, looking for more information as per:

1. Where does one go now for more information on these projects?

2. How much money does CGKA control under the current entity?

**Thanks**

Mc

1- We will keep you appraised of details via NW Kite and the CGKA Facebook pages.

2 - Its not a lot of money, but it exists as a result of fundraiser events and membership dues. The current proposal is to use it for the membership (not including the youth program funds)
