It was in a bag with a Naish Airblast and AR5. I think they also came out in 2002

That bar almost killed me also.
For starters there is no quick release on the chicken loop, so you have to sheet the kite in fully before you can unhook/release it.
When I did let go of the bar, the wrist leash was wrapped around the winding post on one end so the kite went into a death spiral instead of flagging out.
I think I got dragged by one arm for 5 or 6 kite loops before it finally hit the water.

I would like to thank all of the guinea pigs that started before me. Smile

Is the sheeting system on the bar in the pic stock or modified?

I purchased that same setup in 2002 or 2003 at Cleanline (then in Warrenton) to replace a broken bar. I was kiting at Jones Beach when my stock bar for my Naish R3 broke. I rocked Slingshot's new-fangled carbon fiber bar for several years, then upgraded and found a better use for it with a stunt kite.
