Yes...it's definitely Oregon.
Used to watch it break a lot during the winter when I lived on that part of the coast....back in 1990's we called it scotts reef.
Nothing to do with me.
Not sure who Scott is??? Or the story behind it?

It's in boiler bay.
No secret really.
And doubtful it will ever have a crowd issue.
Super heavy and super sharky.
The dark side of surfing.

The guy going over the falls is Garrett Mcnamara, he bounced off the reef on that one and put a gash in his head right above his eye that needed stitches.

As crazy as it sounds those shots do not fully capture how gnarly that session was. Really is the sort of wave that could kill you.

Congratulations to Mark Healy for winning biggest barrel with that wave.

The wave is named after Scott Blackman (Newport photographer) who took lots of artistic shots of the place 30/40 years ago and established the place as a sick and hollow break through his photos. Never surfed the spot himself and it was half-hearted and unsuccessfully attempted by paddle-in surfers only several times until tow-in surfing was invented. Dan Hasselschwarts and Ollie Richardson (Newport locals) should get credit as the first guys to successfully surf the place and make waves by getting dragged into the slab wave at 30 mph via a jetski.

A bit OT perhaps, but waves never-the-less…

Kai has been in the area since Tuesday and has been shattering barriers everyday. I went and watched from the cliff overlook on Wed when the swell was 20'@18sec and saw him get completely swallowed by an avalanche of whitewater after a 3 story drop. Thought he was erased, and then a couple seconds later he pops out and successfully rides out the rest of the wave. Check out this link to one of his waves which is probably the best wave ever ridden at the reef.

He also went out on his foil board and shattered the speed record for the place.
