Sun Jul 20, 2008 5:56 am Kiteboarder's are really nice!! |
|
|
As a slightly older kiteboarder who doesn't quite fit the mold I must say that I was impressed by the kindness and sportsmanship of all the contestants. The congeniality, sportsmanship, and interactions that I saw were just really great.
My wife and I were sitting right next to young 16 year old, "super boy", who was just an amazing kiteboarder! I was listening to him interact with his family and his attitude was humble. I took the liberty of telling him that he was just amazing to watch and his response to me was, "thanks, I appreciate that!" and a really nice smile. Very cool and very personable response from a young super star.
In my real job as a teacher of youth with challenging behaviors I find it really impressive when so many young and amazing atheletes are just so damn cool. Next year I'm going to bring my class to this event so they can see this sport up front and personal.
Pro Kiteboarders are very approachable and cool. Big props to the guys running the event and to the MC's and least but last the Volunteers!!!!!!
I think I drank about 5 full throttles! _________________ Look for the fat guy doing tricks on a surfboard. That'll be me. Oh yeah, if you are doing something unsafe close to me on the beach I'm going to tell you that you might get hurt.

| I wonder if he will reply to this thread or just start a new one. Should we ask him some questions? Maybe he doesn't know how to scroll down. |

shhh, B-man,
many kiteboarders think they are all jagged and edgy and stuff.
you are blowing their cover. (but while i agree with you, we should just keep it amongst ourselves)
i mean, where else can rich white kids be cool?!

just bring them to stevenson for the bridge of the gods kiteboarding festival next weekend.
you should meet plenty of nice people that also happen to kiteboard.

Mon Jul 21, 2008 5:18 am Do you think you have what it takes to mentor? |
|
|
one of the kids in my class? Do you think you could show a high risk kid how to fly a trainer kite and be a mentor to him or her. Do you have the time to impact a less fortunate kid by interacting with him or her?
Are you ready to take some of your kite time and spend it with a student who will only get the chance to fly a kite if it is given to them?
Here is where your ego would have to take a back seat and you could connect with a real teenager.
If you are interested, willing, and think you are stable enough to mentor then pm me or post your contact information.
I'm thinking about doing this the first week in August. I have kites and all gear, but need experienced kiteboarders. If anybody has shwag, t-shirts, hats, etc.. that would be great.
Of course all participants will have to agree to have fun, act appropriate, and connect with kids.
Thanks,

| Phil, is there anyway to attach music to some of these posts? I was thinking Celine Dione's "will always love you" for this one. |

Don't agree.
Your Ozzy allusion is improper. ...Blizzard-era Ozzy is like a large bore handgun; i.e. know what-you-are-doing before using. S.S. topic = slow death by alcoholism. |
