Mon Jun 16, 08 10:55 am Looking for lessons/coaching |
|
|
Im new to the sport and want to commit to learning and improving. I want to be a kiter....So far I have some basic kite skills and am just getting to riding. Over the weekend spent two days at Manzanita, which was great, but I want to accelerate my learning curve and I cant do it alone. I have a long way to go and dont want to be an idiot at any beach.
I am looking for an experienced kiter/coach who can put up with helping me. I dont want to pay 100.00 per hour, it dissuades me from getting out there, but I know I cant do it on my own. I have a long history of skateboarding, snowboarding, wakeboarding and am a board sport guy. I know I will get this sport and am super stoked to make this the year, I have been putting it off. I have 3 kites and am ready. Im looking for someone who can meet me or drive with me from Portland to wherever we go that day. I have an airplane and we could hit Manzanita with ease as well for the afternoon on select days. We will have a good time, and who knows, maybe become friends.
I thought I would put it out there to see what comes. Im go with the flow on this, but maybe there is someone who wants to make a little money doing what they love and help someone along the way…..
Lastly I guess, since this is an open forum, any advice or tips are welcome!!!
Thanks for your thoughts,

Definitely bring beer and just introduce yourself and ask someone who you saw ride and looks like they know what they are doing. Ask them to watch you ride. Take a couple tacks and then come back to the beach and ask them for advice. Try to do what they told you and then repeat.
based on what you told us, I would say that you likely need to work on your stance. shoulders behind your hips, front leg straight, back leg bent. This will allow you to absorb gusts with your legs and edge harder rather then bending over your board to sheet out.
Watch guys on the water, their back are almost straight and they are never rolled over. |

If you pick me up in Hood River and fly me to Newport, I'd be happy to teach you! |

Haha, better yet dude, if after Forrest and I teach you we could all take a trip to San Carlos in Baja during the next big swell there we'd be super stoked. I guess Newport is closer though. _________________ The Slider Project, LLC

If Forest is going to teach you, you may want to ensure that you have good dental coverage |
