Just got back from a week in the Turks and Caicos islands. Kited five of the days. One day on my 16M. Four days on my 12M. Could have kited one more day but I was pooped. Stayed and kited at the Club Med. Here is a link to some photos from the trip:

Looks like a sweet place Kurt! Plenty of partying and kiteboarding, good deal.

Thanks for the pics - Turks is definitely on our dream list of tropical destinations. How was the air itinerary and cost of airfare and accomodactions? We've been to the Bahamas several times and loved it. Did you go diving, too?

The flights were not the best. Redeye from PDX to DFW. DFW to MIA. MIA to PLS. We hit Turks at 12:30 PM. I had my kite in the air by 2:00. The flight was about $600 and the accomodations were $1500. The Club Med is all inclusive. So, all the food, drinks, activities, entertainment, etc were already paid for. I never opened up my wallet on this trip. This was a great trip to bring my non-kiting girlfriend. As you can see from the photos, she also managed to have some fun. If we rented a car, I could have kited more. On the two off shore wind days another part of the island would have been nice kiting. The days that I kited at the Club Med beach were very steady. I got to store all my kiting gear at the windsurfing shack right on the beach.

I hope this info helps,
Kurt

Kurt is $1500 for a couple or just you? $600 ain't bad for airfare for sure...

So the Club Med folks didn't care too much about you kiting from their beach? were you the only one?

Phil,
The $1500 was per person. The Club Med crew had no problem with me kiting from their beach. They would launch and catch my kite. They even offered to use their resue boat if I had any problems. I was the only person at the Club Med who was kiting. On my last day I saw one person kiting on a beach way up wind at another resort.

That's sweet... bet you had all kinds of questions to answer every night...

"How fast does it go?"

"Do you ever just fly away?"

"Can I try?"

Very Happy

Phil,
Yes, I got lots of questions.

What is that sport called?
When did you start?
What happens if the kite falls in the water?
How do you go up wind?
How high can you go?
What are the strings made from?
What does it cost for one of them there kite things?

Nobody asked if they could try it. Most thought that I was nuts.

I look back at the visa bill. We actually paid $1350 each for the stay at Club Med.

Is Jo Jo Still alive?
Did you see him when you were kiting?

Jo Jo (the dolphin) is still alive and hanging out at Turks. I did not see him on this trip. Saw him out and about a few years ago. He just swam around in the surf line for a few minutes and then got out of there.

My wife and I are also staying at the Club Med in Turks. She will hopefully take kite lessons at Long Bay Beach. Supposedly the kite school will pick her (and hopefully me) at the resort.

Any reason to bring a surfboard or is twin tip the way to go? I am planning on bringing my 12m, but also considering my 10m. Thoughts?

Not sure if T & C is good for waves. DR is good.

Make sure to try the Mahi mahi and the conch!

Have fun.
