Viento was not the best place to kite today. Lost my board mid river when release shackle on sliding harness line failed resulting in a self rescue to WA side. (Gnarly big rocks to climb up) Next time I will use a welded ring....

If anyone finds or hears of a 2018 Slingshot Celeritas, like new condition, please PM me.

Was thinking of searching for the board today on the river and wondering how far from where last seen (Friday around noon) I should look.

Wind has been blowing for last two days but don't know if that is enough to offset the current, or how strong the current is at Viento.

Any ideas?

It would have to be downwind since it is a surfboard and it was windy. good luck.

Dang, sorry you lost your board! Make sure you post in the lost and found board here, people don't always read the threads in the main forum when they find gear.

Did you check the Indian fishing village downwind on the WA side?
You might try going there to buy fish and casually ask "do you guys ever recover surfboards"?
They'll want $$ reward.

Also - not sure why you use a ring?
I get 100 days out of my $5 slider rope.
Go to Windance and buy 3 ropes for $5 each and you'll be good for a few years.

Thanks for the suggestion of checking with the folks on the water at Cook/Underwood.

I used a release shackle on friends recommendation to provide another release option. Unfortunately also added something else that could fail.

Now switched to using a welded ring; wanted something that would slide easily on the rope, more so than the chicken loop does.

I use two welded rings on my slider rope and then attach my chicken loop to that. I find that the double ring adds a bit more surface area and reduced wear on the rope. When you go to get a ring, make sure your chicken loop end will fit through the ring. Some of the chicken loops have bigger ends than others.

On the sliding rope I had a release shackle which holds the chicken loop. The shackle failed releasing the bar, same as if the chicken loop had opened. It was equivalent to having the hook on a regular harness shear off . I was still attached to the kite via the safety leash but no way to hook back up.

If it was less windy I might have been able to open chicken loop and attach directly to rope, but not in this case as there was pressure in kite and I was being dragged.

Still no sign of my board.. Crying or Very sad

I once recovered my board from the Bonneville dam. It had my name on it and they called me. They wont pull it out of net because someone got hurt in the net while logs and stuff shifted. Luckily mine was bouncing of the DAM. Its probably worth checking in on the Oregon side.

It’s possible to feed a larger chicken loop behind the spreaderbar. Had to do that when my rope failed. As ropes fail, id recommend leashing to something other than the slider rope so you don’t lose your kite if the slider rope fails

Not sure if you tried this but if not, it's worth trying in the future:

In the scenario of an unwelcome release of the kite in full wind you can keep the 4th or 5th line pulled in to maintain a dumped kite while you try and undo/redo the chicken loop.

If you don't keep some safety line pulled in then yes, re-attaching can be quite difficult.

Swim toward kite and it will fall trailing edge down wind. You will have zero pull.
