I bought a used OR bar. Is this supposed to swivel or not? I think it should but I don't know for sure. If so, any good advice for freeing it up? Maybe drop it in some oil or spray it with lube?

Thanks.

that sure looks like the swivel slingshot used to have with the "mickey mouse ears" thing.

just fyi, i had one of those come apart on me while riding back in the day. inner race and outer race blew apart from each other. which meant both of my center lines were no longer attached to the bar. was a long swim in. i don't suppose this can happen with the purpose built spinners the companies use now.

In my limited experience, it doesn't unswivel under load anyway -- so even if swivel did turn, it wouldn't work. Spin it the other way to compensate or unwind it when you undo your lines. Very Happy

chrissmack that suuuuucks!

I got it unstuck with a little bit of elbow grease. Smile

Now I'd like to give it a little a bit of lube. I've got wd40, silicone spray, etc.

Any advice on what would work best?

It should rotate, and while difficult under load, you should be able to rotate it with the kite in the air and you at rest.

Several generations of the yoke swivel would get sand or other debris in there and lock up. I've broken many using grips and wrenches trying to free them. Ultimately ordering updated parts from OR or getting pieces from hardware stores.

You can replace them with other swivels, or remove it and use a metal ring or about anything with the appropriate strength.
