Also looking at going out tonight, hopefully not too crowded. May just practice body drags upwind and leave the board on land. Also don't want to get in anyone's way or bite off more than I can chew

Hulk

Talk a buddy into going out to the sand bar with you . You will have lots of real estate to practice body dragging . Wear lots of rubber the water is still cold. I will be around would happily come out and launch you from the sand bar.

Jon

suggestion - once you can body drag back and forth.... practice body dragging with your board. it's a good practice to start every session by dragging out to good wind and deeper water.

front hand on the board. back hand on the bar flying the kite.

Thanks to you both. i've decided to opt for Sauvie Island this evening. I love the ES but I think it's a little spicy for my skill level until the sand bar gets bigger, and the last thing I want to do is be a hazard to myself/others.

So Sauvie it is, hopefully my 12M is big enough. thanks for volunteering to help out and for the advice! I'll be an event site regular when I get a little more confident in traffic and my upwind ability.

The goal is to ride in Kiteboard 4 Cancer, and I'm going to make it happen.

The un-named "fight club" place 9 miles east of Bingen. Plenty of open empty sand downwind for kitemare fests. If I were a person with even marginal body & board dragging, board retrieval, & launching skills... this would be the place. On-shore wind.
Experts only is a good idea for the E Site.

The fight club is under water. There lies the problem. People are desperate to kite and the event site is one of only places to go.
Until the water level goes down the circus will continue.

There is a small beach at the wunder bar. But not beginner friendly. Sorry go to jones or floras.
We live in hood and our going down to floras next week for GF to polish her skills before hitting the event site. No she is not a beginner.

Memorial Day certainly turned into "expert only" conditions in Hood River with wind gusts over 40 mph and overhead swell by the Wunderbar in the afternoon.
For those with sufficient skills and small kites/sails it was epic. Looks like more of the same for Tuesday.

FWIW I wouldn't try to launch at the event site right now even without that sign. I understand my skill level and the dangers of the event site right now.

My question is whether the sign will go away once the sand bar is exposed and there is more room to launch safely.

When the Sandbar is back, the launching/landing for kites will only be via the Sandbar.

The Event Site launch/land protocol is made available for kiters only during the winter season and when the Sandbar is underwater in the Springtime.

Yeah, I'm aware of that. My question is whether the sandbar will also be considered "Expert Only." It sounds like the answer is no, so that's cool.
