I was up on Mt Hood, Palmer, on Sunday and snapped a few pics of some impressive kite uphilling! (If you want HQ copies, download the pic by right-clicking on the slide show pics and opening in a new tab; then Save As.)

Nice pics... don't really get the comment section "only windsurfers could be found on the river"... we were out kiting the Columbia on both Saturday & Sunday, Feb 2nd & 3rd and didn't see any windsurfers at all.

@ D, Sorry, "Migration" was a colorful concept for writing since I stopped by Rooster at ~11 on Saturday--I didn't get wet--and didn't see any kiters; air temp was over 50F so I thought I'd see lots of both kiters and windsurfers. The uphilling sure illustrates how much more versatile kite skills are. I edited the comment.

Just curious - where were you this past weekend? Not that I would have been able to make it out - just wondering where it was good...

So did you guys skin across Timberline and up a bit to get above the tree line so that you could set up just left of the ski area boundary? Nice shots!

Yes - skin up till you find wind - be respectful of the ski area boundary -watch for rocks and greyhound eating holes

Nice shots and site 30knotwind - like the nuktacular rooster windsurf shots

Nice! Looks like wind was WSW? Did the Timberline wind sensors give you an idea of what size kite to pack - or did you guys pack several kites? How was the wind? Gusty or pretty steady? I ski Meadows a lot - wind seems pretty gusty on that side the times I am up there. I would think slopes closer to the west side of the mountain the wind would be more direct and less gusty with an approaching front?

SWEET Shots 30knotwind.
If it wasn't for a certain person carrying on like a crazed spastic, G-Man and I were not too stoked to risk life and limb on a surface of "Death Cookies". But once we got up higher the conditions got better and the wind go stronger. We flew 7M Drifters and 6m RPM.
This was the first time G got it in 12 attempts. SW and SE wind should work, we looked at the current wind speed reading and went for it.
Thanks again for sharing your photos.
