The CGKA Board of Directors and Volunteers in partnership with the City and Port of Cascade Locks, with the support of local Cascade Locks Businesses,
would like you to join us for an afternoon/evening of BBQ, Beverages and Celebration of the continued development at this newest Columbia River Gorge Kite Launchsite.

When : Oct 6, Saturday afternoon, starting around 3pm-ish
Where : Blackberry Beach, just east of Cascade Locks, along Herman Creek outflow.
*See photos with directions
What : A BBQ Party to celebrate this new kite launch location that the City and Port of Cascade Locks and The Columbia Gorge Kiteboarding Association worked together on to create.
The CGKA and local businesses will be providing some Food and Beverages as part of our membership drive in support of the continued investment and improvments at this new location.
Bring any extra food & beverage that you would like to have either for yourself or to contribute.
Why? : It's a BBQ at a new kite launch location. It's like winning the lottery, so celebrate and relish this opportunity, because brother, it don't come that easy or that often, if at all!!!!

Directions and some progress photos.

WOW, great job!

Last time I was there people actually drove all the way
to the launch area. Is that the plan for the future is to park there too?

It would be great to stop and patronage some of the local business as well. Lets show Cascade Locks what having a friendly, open mind can do for a local economy.

The road will be closed off with a boulder or two in the near future. The road is too narrow and will eventually erode away if we continue to drive on it.

Amazing before and after shots there. Looking forward to trying this launch out, should be a fun weekend!

If this becomes a popular spot and provides some business to Cascade Locks - do you think they would consider adding material (rock, gravel) to both sides of the road to widen it and make it safe to drive? I noticed that the gravel yard next to where you turn had a pile of rock and gravel big enough to make that a 4 lane freeway. Being able to park right next to the launch would make it an awesome launch. It still looks fantastic now. You guys did a nice job on it. The last time I checked it out - it was still all gravel.

I see myself... Lol.

The launch has come a long way!

Did those 2 trees on the west side of the beach get cut down? I can't tell from the pictures. The dang saw broke when we tried to cut them down during the work party.

Barbecue/party starts about 3, but come earlier if you want to kite as it looks like the wind will calm down in the afternoon.

Sat, Oct 6 2012

Strong easterlies in the West Gorge again, Home Valley to Troutdale. Looks solid upper 20's to low 30's Cascade Locks, low 30 and higher gusts for Rooster.

Looking solid for the inauguration!

BBQ and Beer? Be There!!!

How kiteable is this location for a relative beginner with questionable upwind abilities? Are there any east wind gorge locations that are more forgiving if you get blown downwind?
