Any advice? We're heading down tomorrow morning for a couple of days. Looking to eat Dungeness crab omelets Thursday morning.
Thanks! |

Don't know much about a pole, but if you could borrow a pot/ring obviously it is stupid easy to get dungeness. A bit of throw-a-way chicken parts. wait 20 minutes.
Don't forget to measure the lenght of a dollar bill across the back for maturity.
Seems like this could be done from a SUP? _________________ CGKA Member

Depends on balance and if it is a pot, probably... If a ring it depends if you can pull it up quick enough and still balance... I'd love to try it some time. _________________ Switch Nitro II (8m, 10m, 12m)

Back on the east coast, we used to just use string (old kite line will work well), chicken necks left our in the sun for a few hours, and a fishing net, to catch crabs from shore.
-tie string around chicken piece
-wade into water knee deep
-huck the chicken out into the water David and Goliath style
-when you feel the crabs eating the chicken, slowly pull it in to shore.
-crab will follow chicken almost into the net
-scoop up
Nowadays, we just stop at Northwest Wild Products in Astoria for some picked crab meat and an Albacore on our way back from the coast. |

Back in the '80s I did a night dive at Westport Washington.... looked just like Woodstock down there with nothing but dungeness crab standing around forever. _________________ CGKA Member

There are some sketchy bars and nightclubs that you can easily catch crabs with your pole if you don't take precautions.
Be careful what you ask for...
