I have watched the video a couple of times. When he is first getting the kite to turn, I can see the attachment to the strut. When the kite gets some power, the attachment no longer seems to be there. So does it release when the kite gets some power? How is it attached in the first place? Do you have to work your way to your kite to set it up? Is it there all the time? I guess I am just not getting how the bungie system works............ I see how it works great to make the kite fly though.

This brings me back to the 20m Machine at Sauvies. I felt like I was holding up a house launching/landing that thing. (since I was on the beach drinking with my 12m)

Thanks Nak , you know what I am talking about, a kite that reverse launches is so good for light wind and even better for light wind snow kiting. I can reverse launch my 13 rev on snow and on the beach in 8 kts and if I am standing in the water 10 kts. Smile

Slingshot does not seem too interested in responding to the questions about their kite. At $2,149 the answers are no longer relevant to me.

I know it takes R&D, advertising/hype, passing through different layers of distribution,....but $2,149 for a kite is beyond my choke price.

Agreed, A video with no kite flying/wind reference dominated by a dead tree says trying to sell a "new" old over sized technology. NO THANKS
I realize this is a SS Forum but just Typical SS. Overpriced and Over-hyped

I was actually looking forward to something new/innovative on the light wind front but looks like just regurgitated Hype to me.

There are plenty Light wind options out there and IMHO until a low end with stupid easy relaunch kite comes out at 180 lbs I already have the best option available and it is three years old Smile (no where near 2g and wayyy smaller than 17M)

I was just thinking about when I demo big kites the very first thing I like to do is drop it on the water and see how well it relaunches in light winds! preferably in waist deep water haha

Is it just me or does it seem like the SS video is heavily inspired by the Art of Flight? (I mean in a good way)

What answers need attention?

Relaunch video shortly. But, very similar to 2011 or Rally's.. Very easy and wants to get off the water! Wing tips are exposed and pocket wind well to allow it to pop and release water tension..

2012 LE is smaller in diameter. Over all weight decrease of 10% from 2011.

Light weight bladders only available in the 2012 Turbine.

Here are the questions all tidied up for you:

"I am wondering about the thinner LE on a larger kite. It has been my experience that the thinner LE has a harder time holding the kites shape when it hits the water. Relaunching is not quick and takes some line tugging to get the kite into position where it can catch the wind and pivot up onto its tip. Yes, I pump my kite hard.

Any videos of the kite crashing and then relaunching?

Same questions as others regarding thin leading edge and relaunch...

Is Slingshot going to be represented at the Pismo Kite Expo this weekend? Would love to give the new Turbine a try..

Looks like Battons on wingtips? Hows it compare to the 13 Rally?

Whats the top end?"

A 17m kite that weighs 8.8 pounds?! OK, that's pretty impressive. You gotta give credit where it's due...

Hey Shy, I'll be hitting Cancun in a couple of weeks. I'd be happy to take a Turbine with me and give it a shakedown in light winds! Very Happy

Thinner LE - Well when properly bridled correctly the main loading frame is already supported very well. Add firm pressure and you have a kite that won't "wing tip buckle" ever... The reason is for the Pulley located near the LE towards the wing tip that displaces the load to prevent any heavy load buckle. The Turbine is 100% solid!

Relaunch videos - Shortly but I will get a couple good ones up soon. But as always trying to get a kite up in 7-8knots plus current isn't always easy no matter what the kite or foil... Like I said relaunch is about as similar as the Rally's. Simple and Fast! Winter launchin is no problem even in no wind...

Pismo Expo
- Sorry not this year.. But I hear they got it good.. Good for them.. Dave will be on a local Cali tour within the month. I will post up locations he will be at soon. Check Slingshot_FB for all the latest demo tour.

Top Gear - 20kts + depending on the weight of rider but for me at 160lb It felt very easy to ride at 20..

Batton's? - Batton Free and packs down very tightly.

13 Rally - Can't compare because it doesn't exist. Similar to 14m Rally. For any one under 160lb the 14 might be all you need but if you're over 180 you might need the extra power to get you upwind and having fun between 8-10kts.

Nak- PM me and I can try to source you one of the trip! Good to have more 3rd party feedback.

because no body ever listens to reps... Drunk

Yes looking at the Forum Home page you would think that

"Industry Soapbox
Please make all commercial postings here. Shops post all of your sales, specials, announcements. Industry folks can announce new products, press releases, etc.. This forum was created to keep commercial talk off the other forums, so please respect that. Thank you!"

You will find though that SS generally gets an exemption from the rules on this forum

It was a couple educational videos and photos on a new kite. Prices and dealer incentives were never establish.. You can move it to the Industry side no problem it will stay near the top much longer anyway. Wink

My two cents on the Slingshot Turbine; Background, I currently have a 2011 Turbine, and plan to soon upgrade to the new 2012. In a nutshell, it is simply a mind blowing kite. Niche yes, meaning you are on the water 2 hours before everyone else, and having a ball. Spectacular sessions truly accomplished before there is any wind chop messing up your waves. On the flip side, I’ve flown it in more wind than I’d like to admit and still come off the water with a smile. I’m 210# and I’ve had more memorable sessions in what would previously be considered marginal, - should go back to work, conditions than any kite I have flown. If you don’t want to get skunked, and or want your buddies to be jealous because you are on the water and they are not, this kite is the answer.
