I am so stoked!! Two firsts today: completed a toeside transition and finally jumped the kite! I've been popping and jumping off waves' small jumps, but today was the first time I've jumped just using the kite. I guess I'd been trying to hard... Anyway stil not big jumps, but I've got the idea now. Even landed 3 of 'em fairly smoothly.
Anyways, thanks everyone for al the advice & encouragement. Especialy Kraemer, Phil & Mark for putting up wwith all of my questions. You guys Rock! |

Wish I could; I'll be in Tokyo.
When did I get the "Opinionated" label?!?!? OK, I deserved that. Shouldn't make political posts on a kiteboarding forum. I promise to be good from now on... |

Started to get a little more air today. Problem: About half the time I can ride away from the landing, but the other half of the time I end up swinging downwind of the kite, so when I land the kite is upwind of me... I know to redirect the kite back forward, but it seems like sometimes I just swing too fast downwind. When it works I don't feel like I'm swinging. I go up, redirect the kite forward, land and ride away. When I swing forward, I'm off balance, fall on my ass and wait for the kite to drift back downwind. (Nice thing is it hasn't hindenburged... Lines go slack till it drifts downwind.) I'm not sure what I'm doing different when it works out right? Any help here is much appreciated! |

Sounds like you may be sending the kite from a little low?
Try bringing the kite up a little higher before sending it and edging hard upwind before takeoff. Both should help. |

| Thanks Adam! I wasn't paying that much attention to height of the kite before sending, so that probably is it. I'll work on that next time... Thanks again!!! |

it depends on if you are using a c kite or a bow type kite
If you are using a c kite start your jump with the kite @ 10 oclock or so and just pull hard and fast
if using a bow kite start @ 11 oclock but dont swing it over too much, pull in / sheet in more
in both cases start pulling back just after you're at zenith but you'll have more time with the bow
Congrats man! |

Sounds also like you might be oversending your kite. Try to see how far you're sending it back when you're swinging around and under it. Where is the kite when you crash? Is it on the opposite side of where it should be because it didn't have time to come back to the side where it started?
Better yet, stop sending the kite and work on unhooking and loading for pop. Then you won't have any of these problems
