This is just a cautionary piece of info. The latest piecemeal charge from another airline, Delta just increased their oversize fee from $100 to $150, this applies to surfboards (I got dinged once), it might apply to other bags too.

In my frequent travels I'm noticing the vigilance towards bag weight and size, even for the elite status frequent flyers. I used to get away with everything. So far fee free on all airlines with the NSI Golf bag this year, but I suspect the cat and mouse game might get a little more tense.

Barefoot kiting anyone?

With all these stories about prices going up on flights and luggage fees.. I have one thing good to say.
On a direct flight back from SJD on Alaska air, a bar and lines disappeared from my luggage. I claimed the loss with Alaska, and was pleasantly surprised to get a check in the mail 3 months later.

I've heard that Airlines are going to start charging for skis and snowboards too now.

Bros - also consider the rise in the cost of shipping your kiteboards via postal services.

I sold a board to a guy on the east coast - UPS wanted 70 for the board and USPS wanted 80 to ship it. Fed Ex was the cheapeast at $50. It was a large board - but freaking expensive to ship Rolling Eyes

A board that folds in half - nice! That way if your buddy doesn't have a board you can just give him half of yours Laughing
